Many students with autism struggle to manage and regulate feelings of anxiety, which can result in negative school experiences. Sometimes, teachers of autistic students are focused on managing behavior without considering the underlying causes, which may include anxiety. As a novice special educator, I was unprepared to help my students understand and express their anxiety. Since then, I have developed a toolbox to help educators help their students to manage anxiety, which often results in fewer behavior concerns and better school experiences. This session will focus on practical, proactive strategies that teachers can take back and implement in their classroom right away.
